SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF IDEAS
"Coming up with creative ideas is one thing, but how do you manage them to make them happen?" As I see it, there are many different approaches to this.
I love starting with a blank sheet of paper, and for that you need a different approach.
It's essential to take the team out of the work routine and their usual environment, to create a different setting.
Perhaps going out into nature or something like that, and open up a space for creativity.
That's one part. And above all, to motivate people to think big.
That's another very important aspect. When I start these processes, or when I started them in the past,I'd always say: "There are no rules, no limitations, your mind must be completely free, and now it's all about thinking big and capturing those big thoughts on paper." I think that's the first step:opening up completely, starting with a blank sheet, and creating an setting that takes you fully out of routine so you can act and create with complete freedom.
Alright, so how do you manage it to make it happen?
The next step would be to check how practical all that is and, for that, you need a process.
There are also many project management processes where you test with prototypes and the like pto see if something is really feasible.
And I'm a big fan of trial and error. That means daring to try, to take action, without ruling something out beforehand, but run tests.
I love pilot projects, where you can really observe in a small setting, on a small scale, how things can be tested.
I think this is also the innovation model that big corporations follow nowadays:creating those spaces and, at the same time, recognising the need to evaluate ideas along the way and ask yourself: Is it feasible? Is it truly viable?
And if it's not, you take a step back, optimise again and again, or adjust it.
There needs to be a space for this process. And that space must be created but, for that, you need structures and, of course, support from management.
It's essential to free up both resources and mindsets for this process to be possible.
You also mentioned dialogue as a tool for implementing ideas.
I believe it's essential to communicate constantly and to shift perspectives.
And by shifting perspective,I mean stepping out of the business context and looking from the other side, whether through the client's point of view or other stakeholders,to bring in many different perspectives,to foster dialogue, and to apply that stakeholder management to achieve the best possible outcome.
Ultimately, it always comes down to the final product, the context doesn't matter.
Here it's important not to focus solely on the company's viewpoint, but on the viewpoint of those who will end up using the product.
That's why it's essential to be in constant exchange and dialogue, work with like-minded people that you can talk to and other stakeholders to enrich the process as much as possible.
